Press release from the No Way! Group. 12 May 2010. For immediate release.
Campaigners against the controversial Shrewsbury North West Relief Road have welcomed a decision by the Department of Transport to have a spending review of all new transport schemes, including the NWRR. Geoff Black, Convenor of the No Way! Group opposing the scheme said:
‘We have been very concerned at the cost of the consultation in a period of political uncertainty and a very poor economic climate. However, Shropshire Council has doggedly persisted in pursuing this road scheme despite there being very little chance of its completion. It is now time for Shropshire Council to face reality and abandon the NWRR once and for all and instead concentrate on viable and environmentally sympathetic transport schemes. We welcome the Department’s decision and hope it leads to a swift re-think by Shropshire Council as to the road’s future.’
